What exactly does Meridia Wealth do?
We are cross-border financial advisers for expats living in Europe. We arrange and manage the money side directly, savings, investments, pensions, cross-border planning and wealth structuring, and we coordinate a network of trusted partners for everything else that comes with a move abroad.
Best asked to any of our partnersDo I have to be moving to Europe, or already living there?
Either. We work with people planning a move who want the finances lined up before they go, and with expats already settled who want a second look at a plan that was built for a different country.
Best asked to Matt Turner or Remy HartWhat happens on the first call, and does it cost anything?
The introductory call is free and there is no obligation. We ask where you are from, where you live now, and what is on your mind, then set out how we would approach it. If we are not the right fit, we will say so.
Best asked to any of our partnersI have a UK pension. Should I transfer it, consolidate it, or leave it alone?
A SIPP, a QROPS, or doing nothing each carry a real cost and a real benefit once you are a non-UK resident. The right answer depends on your full picture, your country of residence and your plans, not on a headline transfer rate. We review it against everything else rather than in isolation.
Best asked to Remy Hart, EuropeCan I still pay into or claim my UK State Pension from abroad?
Often yes, and voluntary contributions can be very good value, but the rules on eligibility and how your pension is uprated depend on where you live. It is worth checking early rather than assuming.
Best asked to Remy Hart, EuropeWhat happens to my 401(k) or IRA once I leave the US?
Leaving it exactly where it is isn't automatically wrong, but it is a decision worth making on purpose, especially once FATCA reporting and your new country's tax treatment enter the picture. We look at how it fits your wider plan as a US person abroad.
Best asked to Jacob Shelton, US armWhy is a plan built back home not enough once I've moved?
Currency exposure, local cost of living, tax residency and which accounts are even available to you all change the moment your address does. A generalist back home doesn't know the rules where you live now, and a local adviser may not know how a UK SIPP or a US IRA actually works. Cross-border is the gap we specialise in.
Best asked to any of our partnersHow do I know if I'm actually tax resident in France, Spain or Portugal?
It depends on days spent in country, where your main ties are, and how the relevant tax treaty applies to you. Getting it wrong can mean double taxation or an unexpected bill. We help you understand your position and bring in a local tax partner where formal filing advice is needed.
Best asked to Matt Turner or Remy HartHow is my money invested, and can I keep the same adviser over time?
Portfolios are built around your goals and your appetite for risk, and reviewed as your life abroad changes. You keep the same named partner throughout, so the plan is adjusted by someone who already knows your situation, not a rotating call centre.
Best asked to any of our partnersWhat are FATCA and PFIC, and why do they matter to me?
They are two sets of rules that quietly restrict what US citizens can invest in while living abroad. A normal European investment account can become a tax problem for an American without anyone noticing until it is expensive to fix. We invest with those rules in mind from the start.
Best asked to Jacob Shelton, US armI'm American but my spouse isn't. Who should we speak to?
Start with Jacob, who leads the US arm. Where a household mixes American and non-American connections, he works alongside Matt and Remy so both sides of your finances are planned together rather than in separate silos.
Best asked to Jacob Shelton, US armDo you handle Golden Visas, residency or citizenship?
Not as a service we sell. Visas, residency and citizenship by investment are handled by specialist partners we work with and trust. We introduce you and coordinate on your behalf, and we advise on the financial side where an investment route is involved, so it actually fits your wider plan.
Best asked to any of our partnersWhat else can your partners help with?
Currency exchange, mortgages and cross-border lending, property, local tax filing and legal matters such as wills and succession. The idea is that you have one point of contact, your Meridia partner, for the whole transition, rather than assembling the team yourself.
Best asked to any of our partnersYou mention AI. Is a computer giving me advice?
No. We use technology behind the scenes for admin such as drafting reports, running cash-flow scenarios and prompting reviews. It frees up your adviser's time. Every recommendation is made and signed off by a qualified person.
